Fresh Herb Facial Masques

By Mary Helen Leonard of The Natural Beauty Solutions

Fresh herbs contain a wide variety of properties that can help benefit your skin. Thyme and basil, for example, are slightly astringent and can be helpful in balancing oily skin and fighting acne. Soothing herbs, such as mint or chamomile have natural antiinflammatory properties, making them ideal for cleansing sensitive skin and reducing redness.

Raw herbs can be pureed and added to other simple ingredients to create facial masques that target any number of skin types. These recipes start off with a simple base of deep cleansing white kaolin clay, exfoliating yogurt, and moisturizing honey. To make a vegan version of this recipe, replace the yogurt with unsweetened coconut milk and omit the honey.

Ingredients
2 tablespoons kaolin clay
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
1 teaspoon pureed (or finely minced) thyme, basil, or mint

1 teaspoon honey

Directions
Combine the clay, yogurt, herb puree, and honey in a small nonmetal bowl and stir together with a nonmetal spoon or spatula.

To Use
Apply liberally to moistened skin. Allow the mask to set for up to fifteen minutes before washing off. Follow with a toner and moisturizer as needed.
