Austinites can look forward to getting their fresh produce and other local or handmade items more often, as the Texas Farmers’ Market (TFM) will launch a weekday market in Mueller starting May 2, 2018. Due to high demand, TFM is expanding to provide a convenient opportunity for those who live, work and play in East Austin to purchase a wide selection of local fare. The market will be held on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.in Mueller’s Browning Hangar, rain or shine. It will be the only weeknight market within the City of Austin.
More than 40 local vendors are confirmed to join the Wednesday market, many of whom will also showcase their products at the popular Sunday market. In addition to the local vendors, TFM brings a wide selection of family-friendly activities, ranging from live music to petting zoos to sample-the- market tables. The market is also a producer-only market, meaning all farms and ranches are inspected regularly to ensure the quality of products meet the standards that are being portrayed.
Partnering with the Sustainable Food Center, the Mueller Farmers’ Market also accepts SNAP Lonestar dollars, and $1 is worth $2 for these benefits on fresh fruits and vegetables for up to $30 doubled. For those venturing from outside of Mueller, plenty of parking is available along designated streets and in the McBee Garage, which is $1 per hour and less than a five-minute walk away. Additionally, for those who wish to utilize public transportation, the market is served by a nearby Capital Metro bus stop for routes 37 and 350.
