Austin Resource Recovery Free Composting Class + Recycling Pledge

August 23, 2015 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Free Composting Class — 10:30am-11:30am

Austin Resource Recovery, a City of Austin service, is working to reach Zero Waste by 2040, which means reducing the amount of trash sent to landfills by 90 percent. The Home Composting Rebate Program supports Austin’s Zero Waste goal by educating residents about how to keep food scraps, yard trimmings and food-soiled paper out of the landfill.

Learn how to improve the quality of your soil, and spend less time and money fertilizing and watering. We ask that you pre-register for the class so you can earn a free composting bin once you complete the training. We look forward to seeing you!

Please SHARE Your Recycling Insights!  — 10:10am-12:00pm

A recent independent study found that more recyclables are going to the landfill than are being placed in residents’ blue carts. In fact, 44 percent of what is found in Austin’s residential trash stream could be recycled.

To turn this around, the City wants to learn more about the barriers between residents and their blue recycling carts. For that reason, Austin Resource Recovery is asking for “insights” from the community. Unlike “ideas” which are suggestions for solving a problem, “insights” reveal the root of the problem and this more detailed information will help ARR understand the obstacles which will allow for more and better opportunities for recycling.

Austin Resource Recovery will be at the market to hear your thoughts on “How might we put fewer recyclables in the trash?”
